Art education must aim at the holistic growth of the individual. It is a way for one to grow and become sensitive to the beauty in nature, social values, and the aesthetic aspects of life as a whole. In art education, training of hands and eyes is only a tool-sharpening process, which is important. But the sharpening of brain, develops a creative, fulfilled, and well-balanced personality. It helps to develop integrated intelligence. Life is also like a work of art. A matured artwork develops by adopting several experiences of an artist. Similarly, a child grows into a matured person by undergoing several shades of learning from the experiences. Being an educational facilitator, the objective of my carrier is to create and provide such experiences to the students.
According to me Art is an ancient and universal language. As academic education is significant for oneself to understand the social and external affairs, same way Art education is key to know inner self. For instance, a seed requires water, air and other essential nutrition from nature to develop into a tree and till that time it needs strong fencing to stay protected from all type of external obstacles. To me ‘the fencing’ part is a form of art education.
Art education is not only inspires and motivates students to enjoy learning. It also supports the creative and critical thinking skills. I believe that every child is unique, and needs a naturalistic secure, caring, and most of all energizing learning atmosphere in which to learn and grow socially, emotionally, and intellectually.
I believe that students are capable of doing great work at any age, and my job is to inspire and empower them to think and work like artists. In my classroom, I am the facilitator and guide, giving students opportunities and challenges to create and solve artistic problems and get out of their comfort zone. I help students gain the skills they need to communicate their ideas effectively and make art that is meaningful to them.
I am a Delhi based performance artist and art practitioner. For the past several years my research into Indian mythology ,feminine iconography and religious symbolism have greatly triggered me to compare the revered and the reviled that reflect on my work . I also try to address the social hypocrisy through my performance , installations and drawing based work that challenge cultural preconditioning pertaining the body image and gender issues. My recent practice centers around site specific collaborative framework majorly focused on bringing out the voice unheard through various dialogical process of making
Art helps children to be more like themselves than any other person. It helps them find their inner potential to express and portray what is inside them and also supports learning. For me it is letting the child free and explore the universe that fits within himself. It enhances the power of decision making, creativity, confidence, expression, collaboration and also motor skills.
As an art facilitator, I want to share my knowledge with the students as well as give them the right guidance to develop their aesthetic sense, artistic and conceptual skills. Being a facilitator, I believe my students should learn through their hands-on experiences. This way they will be a good learner and build up self-confidence.
At KPS, in pre-primary wing students explore elements of art and problem-solving skill in a playful manner to evoke their senses.
